INFRASTRUCTURE

Waukesha County is well connected: to a dynamic economic region, to the global hub of Chicago, and to international markets.

Our localized “Economic Infrastructure” provides efficient connections and has shaped our growth and success – serving as magnets for business location and economic growth.

  • Waukesha County is the geographic center-point of the dynamic southeastern Wisconsin/Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis metro region. Our central location is only 20 minutes to downtown Milwaukee, and an hour drive-time to Madison, the University of Wisconsin flagship and state government hub.

  • Transportation networks connect Waukesha County to our growing economic region: Interstate 94 provides a direct route to Milwaukee, Chicago, Madison and the Twin Cities; Interstate 43 connects to Beloit and Green Bay. In addition, USH 18, 41, and 16 state trunk highways connect Waukesha County to other cities within the region.

  • Seven improved interchanges provide entry points into Waukesha County, with ease of access providing a strong market for commercial development, shopping and employment centers at these locations.

  • Waukesha County is served by 5 different railway companies – providing excellent rail access to numerous freight destinations - connecting materials, to production, to market.

  • Waukesha County’s regional airport, Crites Field, is the third busiest airport in the State. In 2009, nearly 60,000 flights were recorded. It is a significant amenity to regional companies, providing convenient and affordable connections for businesses with a global market strategy.

  • The Port of Milwaukee- providing access to St. Lawrence Seaway and ocean-bound shipping, inland river barge, and inter-lake shipping - is located 10 miles west of Waukesha County.

  • Neighboring Milwaukee General Mitchell International Airport, which is ranked one of the fastest growing airports in the nation, offers roughly 252 daily departures and arrivals, typically has lower than average fares, and serves 56 markets – a leader among smaller and mid-sized cities nationwide in daily nonstop flights, provides convenient connections worldwide to leisure and business travelers.
